ABOUT ME
Katie Forster
Professionally
I have nearly 20 years of in-house experience in media. Before establishing Otter Media, I was SVP of Legal & Business Affairs, Acquisitions at Fremantle International and, prior to that, SVP of Podcasts, Business Affairs at Avalon for over five years. My in-house career began at Paramount as Senior Director and other previous employers include Universal, The Agency and Warner Bros Discovery.
My professional passion is podcasts (and I also spend far too much of my free time listening to them). Career highlights include representing Marc Maron’s WTF, Chris and Rosie Ramsey's Sh**gged, Married, Annoyed, Taskmaster The Podcast, RHLSTP and Russell Howard’s 5 Brilliant Things to name a few. I’ve also worked closely with podcast producers and monetisation platforms including Acast, Global, Adelicious and Patreon.
It became increasingly clear to me that there was very little specialised business affairs support available for the podcast industry and so Otter Media was born, driven by a genuine desire to offer a premium and personal service in such an exciting and ever-evolving sector.
I take a highly pragmatic, commercial and collaborative approach. My priority is ensuring that my clients receive the best possible support and advice and also enjoy the experience along the way!
Personally
Apart from podcasts I love, in no particular order, open water swimming (most recently completing a 10km swim event along the Algarve coast), coffee, our dog Indy, getting outside, reading, trying to understand quantum physics…

“Katie is exceptionally knowledgeable of all the commercial aspects of podcasting, making the process of building a commercial partnership very smooth. In my experience, Katie is a rare talent in this space, coupled with a calm brilliance and unflappable character”
Andy Goldsmith - President, Adelicious
“Katie is quite simply one of the best media lawyers I have worked with. She is incredibly experienced, professional and always keeps calm under pressure. Katie navigates extremely complicated deals with ease, finding creative solutions to seemingly impossible positions. She has an incredible attention to detail, which is very reassuring when negotiating complex rights and high value deals with international broadcasters and platforms. She is also great fun and a joy to work with - highly recommend!”
Paula Warwick – Head of Distribution, Avalon
"Katie is an excellent lawyer – very clear and concise drafting with a thorough knowledge of the industry. She knows when to fight for points and when not to and this approach enables her to achieve fast and effective results. Where Katie is really exceptional is on her ability to genuinely cut through problems and find creative solutions, she is very pragmatic and straightforward. She’s also an incredibly lovely person to have around ( funny, kind, sensible and smart) - I cannot recommend her highly enough!"
Jennifer Barrett, EVP FremantleMedia, ex BBC, ABC & NBC Universal.
